We
have both worked in summer camps during our teen years as well as after we
were married. We directed several different camps in Saskatchewan as well
as ‘Teen Ranch’ in South Africa.
In 1980 after moving to Mossbank we started having several teen trail
rides each summer. This consisted of taking 25 teens on horseback, along
with 2 covered wagons with gear for approx 50 miles along the 2 lakes (Old
Wives Lake and Lake of the Rivers). Because of the location between the 2
lakes the ministry got it’s name ‘Twin Lakes Ranch’.
In the late 80’s we became involved with The Fellowship of Christian
Cowboys attending many rodeos and doing Cowboy Church. Being involved with
the rodeo world we saw a great need to reach our people with the gospel of
Jesus Christ.
The Wild West ...conjures up images in our minds of rodeos, horse
chases, cattle drives, and the like. We like to think of our ministry as
being somewhat like the Wild West—appreciating beautiful country and the
cowboy way of life along with the abundant life that Jesus came to give
us. We love to see people especially cowboy/cowgirls learn about Jesus and
how He loves them and show them how Jesus can change their lives.
Several parents were asking us, “ How can we get our kids involved in
rodeo?” We saw this as an opportunity to develop Christian rodeo schools
on our ranch.
We started by building an outdoor arena and the first year 1991 ran
only a bareback school. Later that year the Lord gave us the vision to run
Rodeo Bible Camps for the youth (ages 10-19). Since then we have had Rodeo
Bible Camps every summer, Rodeo Schools including Bareback, Tie-Down
Roping, Team Roping, Breakaway Roping, Barrel Racing, Bull Riding, Steer
Riding and Bull Fighting.
Twin Lakes Ranch is one of the few organizations in Canada that run
Christian rodeo schools and Christian Rodeo Bible Camps
We have seen the schools and camps grow to the capacity that we are now
needing an indoor arena so we can run the schools, etc. year round.
Through the years many of the youth have become Christians so we are now
involved with Bible studies, counseling, weddings as well as Cowboy
Church.
In the fall of 2000 the Lord showed us that we
need to sell our ranch and relocate the ministry. The vision He has given
us for this ministry was too big for our ranch. He told us that we would
sell our ranch and then He would show us where to go. So May 2003 our
ranch was sold and we are now believing for land near the city of Moose
Jaw.
Habukkuk 2:2,3
“And the Lord said to me, Write my answer on a billboard, large and
clear, so that anyone can read it at a glance and rush to tell the others.
But these things I plan won’t happen right away, slowly, steadily, surely,
the time approaches when the vision will be fulfilled. If it seems slow,
do not despair, for these things will surely come to pass. Just be
patient! They will not be overdue a single day!”
“The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has
appointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the
broken-hearted and to announce that captives will be released and
prisoners will be freed. He has sent me to tell those who mourn that the
time of the Lord’s favor has come, and with it, the day of God’s anger
against their enemies.” Isaiah 6:1,2
We have dedicated our lives to helping people come into their destiny.
We believe each person, young and old were created by God for a purpose on
this earth. We have a passion to work with anyone who is willing to find
their destiny, but we especially like to work with youth to get them
started on a solid-life long journey. The issues of life today have become
complex and have left many bruised and broken. We believe that we have the
tools to build the brokenness into wholeness. “He will give beauty for
ashes, joy instead of mourning, praise instead of despair.” Isaiah 61:3
We are using the western/rodeo lifestyle as a platform to present
Jesus.
